Could Crawling Be the Missing Piece?

Have you ever felt like life is just harder than it should be?

Like you are always playing catch-up, trying to stay organized, struggling to focus, or feeling overwhelmed by too many tasks at once?

What if it’s not because you need to “try harder”... but because your brain is working overtime to compensate for something it never got a chance to develop?

Let me tell you about my son, Axel.

As a baby, Axel didn’t get enough time crawling on his hands and knees. Like many moms, I was navigating my stress of being a first-time mom, thinking I needed to be perfectly nailing everything, and unknowingly, I was passing that anxious energy to him. This chaotic energy disrupted his ability to integrate his primitive reflexes—those instinctual movements every baby needs to wire their brain for future success. We talk more about this on our In the Cortex podcast.

Fast forward to when Axel started school:

  • He struggled to sit still, always rocking in his chair, needing constant movement.
  • He felt overwhelmed with too many tasks at once.
  • He had trouble focusing—his brain was processing too much at once.

Turns out, his brain just needed more time to crawl.

See, crawling isn’t just a cute way for babies to get around. It’s how the midbrain develops—regulating the vestibular system, filtering out distractions, and helping with organization, sequencing, and focus. Without enough time in this developmental milestone, Axel’s nervous system wasn’t getting the foundation it needed.

But here’s the amazing part: The brain can always reorganize itself.

For a few years, Axel dedicated less than 20 minutes a few days a week to reworking this missing milestone, and today, at nine years old, he:
âś” Can focus on tasks without being overwhelmed.
âś” Knows how to support his nervous system.
✔ Understands that nothing was ever wrong with him—his brain just needed a chance to catch up.

Just imagine if we all had this awareness at nine years old!

So, I have to ask—did YOU get enough time crawling as a baby?
If you find yourself struggling with:

  • Feeling scattered or disorganized
  • Constantly running late
  • Starting projects but not finishing them before jumping to the next thing...

It might not be about trying harder—it might be about going back and reorganizing your brain.

And here’s the fun part—you can find out right now. Try crawling on all fours and tag us on Instagram(@Inthecortex_US). We can tell you exactly where your midbrain left off in development—no need to ask your caregivers if you crawled as a baby.

This isn’t an April Fool’s joke. This is real life. Crawling matters, and every human deserves the chance to go back and integrate this part of the brain at any age.

Because life isn’t supposed to feel so hard—it’s meant to be enjoyed.
